Design Build Competition

In April and May, the Home Builders Committee (HBC) and Sacramento Reginal Builders Exchange (SRBX) held two-day competitions for students to design and build a structure in Southern and Northern California. The competition was a fun but rigorous learning experience for students that promote career awareness in the construction trades. The teams of students had to work hard to complete their structures over the two-day competition as well as have them pass building inspections. The materials used by the teams were provided by HBC, SRBX and the construction professionals. The California Homebuilding Foundation (CHF) also assisted with the coordination and promotion of the competitions.
At the HBC Design/Building Competition in Southern California, 12 student teams participated and the winners were:
1st Place Overall, California School for the Deaf, Riverside
2nd Place, North Orange County ROP at Valencia High School (BITA)
3rd Place, North Orange County ROP at Brea Olinda High School (BITA), and North Orange County ROP at La Habra High School (BITA).
Safety Award, Upland High School (BITA).
At the Sacramento Regional Builders Exchange (SRBX) Design Build Competition in Northern California, 23 teams of students participated and the winners were:
Architectural Award – Folsom High School
Best in Show – William Daylor High School
Architectural Award – NCCT, Washington Unified School District
Best in Show – Lincoln High School (Stockton)
OPEN AND TRADITIONAL:
Team Safety Award – Wheatland High School BITA Program
Wayne Johnson Safety Person Award – Andrew Toebe, Wheatland High School
Rookie Team – Will C. Wood High School
